HIMALAYAN MOUNTAIN DOG CLUB INTERNATIONAL

WHAT IS A HIMALAYAN MOUNTAIN DOG?

A Himalayan Mountain Dog (HMD) is a class of landrace guardian dogs of similar appearance, temperament, and purpose, that are native to the Himalayan mountain regions of the traditional Tibetan Cultural Area, Nepal, Mongolia, India, Bhutan, and Pakistan.
We hope you enjoy our short video of some examples of HMD. It is not all inclusive, but we have attempted to represent the varying styles. Please click on the video to start it. See additional information below the video.

In an effort to preserve them Himalayan Mountain Dog Club International was formed to encourage and allow the various styles to be bred with each other, thus conserving genetic diversity while allowing breeders to pursue maintaining local styles.
The Breed Standard for the HMD is broad, focusing not on making all HMDs look exactly the same, but to have basic similarities in appearance. The some of the most important traits of the HMD are that the dog is agile, robust, bound to its territory and people, and willing to defend both.
